Labrador Rescue Kent

Labrador Rescue Kent and Borders is a Registered Charity (No.1067495) formed in 1997 which aims to recover, rehabilitate and rehome any Labrador Retriever in the County of Kent and its borders that has been ill-treated, neglected or whose owners can no longer keep it.

We are not directly associated with any other Labrador Rescue Organisation but will try to assist any, which may contact us for help. Labrador Rescue Kent and Borders does not normally have homeless Labradors waiting in kennels to be rehomed.

If circumstances allow, the owner of the Labrador which requires rehoming, continues to keep the dog until the right home is found. However, if the dog needs to be removed immediately from the home for whatever the reason, Labrador Rescue Kent and Borders can arrange for the dog to be placed in a foster home approved by us. We are always grateful to these foster families for their care and if you could help us in this way please contact your local helper.

Monthly Update
OCTOBER 2008
(compiled 12-11-08)

The end of October also marked the end of our financial year. We have rehomed a few less dogs this year which hopefully is a good sign. unfortunately as I expect with other charities  our outgoings have far exceeded our income.
We have in fact run at quite a large deficit this year.
A number of factors have contributed to the extra drain on our resources.

We have seen an increase this year in the number of dogs needing medical treatment, when dogs come to us we assess them before putting them into a new home. If they need medical treatment we ensure that is done before they are rehomed.

Some come to us as emergencies and if we do not have homes waiting they have to go to kennels until a suitable home is found for them.

We had more older dogs than normal come to us for rehoming, some of them not good with other dogs or needing medical treatment. These dogs are harder to rehome and stay with us longer as we are normally asked for young dogs.

Some of these dogs stayed with us for quite a while and we still have Jack and Mac who would love a hearth to sit by this Christmas.

We always look after the dogs in our care, regardless of their age, for as long as it takes us to find them a home.

We have been very lucky this month to find loving homes for some of our long-staying older residents. These older dogs can still give years  of companionship, so if you are thinking of giving a home to a labrador please do not dismiss these older ones.

We are always looking for ways to make money so if you could perhaps organise  a fundraising event please contact Sue or Head Office.

If you have a few hours to spare have you thought of being a helper?. This involves assessing dogs and visiting potential homes.

Reunion Day 2008

This year the reunion day took place
on
Sunday 29th June

Having had ten successful years of Reunion Fun Days we thought it had probably run its course, but a chance remark and enquiries from our Rescue owners as to when the next one would be encouraged us to have another Fun Day. Mick suggested the location and organised the date and the site. >>>click for full report>>>

Dogs Needing A Home last updated 9th Nov. 2008

HAVE YOU GOT A HOME FOR JACK?

Jack is a five year old black dog. We do not have much history on Jack but know that he is good with older children. He is not very good with other dogs but we understand this is because he has not met many dogs. He is overweight and will need some lead training.
